How can a Psychologist be helpful during pregnancy and in preparing me for childbirth and parenting?
Psychologists are experts in human behaviour, emotions, and cognitive and physiological process. They provide a holistic approach to health and wellbeing across the lifespan. Understanding how your mind works enables you to feel empowered and in control during pregnancy, birth, and in caring for your baby.
How does Minding Mum differ from other services?
Minding Mum has your family’s best interests at heart, therefore we will work on whatever areas you need help with. It can be a simple chat about finding a helpful rhythm with your newborn, navigating relationship changes, reflecting on childhood memories that may be triggered by becoming a parent yourself, or more in-depth assistance with feelings of anxiety and depression. We are different because we are a Telehealth service. By offering support in familiar surroundings we know that mother and child are going to be comfortable and therefore be able to engage in treatment with greatest success.
How long are the consultations?
Consultations last 50 minutes.
Who can come to the consultation?
While Pregnancy-Related Medicare rebates are only available to new mothers, we strongly encourage partners and/or key support persons to be present in appointments. Of course, babies are always welcome too!
Parents who have not been the carrier of the baby during pregnancy are encouraged to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan in order to seek their own treatment with Minding Mum.
