FAQs

How can a Psychologist be helpful during pregnancy and in preparing me for childbirth and parenting?

Psychologists are experts in human behaviour, emotions, and cognitive and physiological process. They provide a holistic approach to health and wellbeing across the lifespan. Understanding how your mind works enables you to feel empowered and in control during pregnancy, birth and in caring for your baby.

How does Minding Mum differ from other services?

Minding Mum has your family’s best interests at heart, therefore we will work on whatever areas you need help with. It can be a simple chat about some ideas about routine, or more in-depth assistance with feelings of anxiety or depression.  We are different because we come to you. By offering support in familiar surroundings we know that mother and child are going to be comfortable, and so respond with greatest success.

How long are the consultations?

Consultations last 30-50 minutes. As we are a mobile service, we ask that you allow a 30 minute window either side of your scheduled appointment time.

Who can come to the consultation?

While pregnancy related Medicare rebates are only offered to new mothers, we strongly encourage partners and/or key support persons to be present in your appointments. And, of course, your new baby!

Which areas do you serve?

Currently, Minding Mum is only able to offer home visits to new parents in the Stonnington, Boroondara or Kooyong areas of Melbourne. We hope to expand soon! If you are outside of this area please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can assist you in finding support local to you, or alternatively discuss revised fees to cover our extra travel time.
